Although his initial offers were limited to Big Sky schools such as Montana and Northern Colorado, Horton’s fortunes changed when Nevada extended him his first scholarship offer from an FBS program. Recruited by Jay Norvell, then Nevada's head coach, Horton was part of a robust recruitment class. Norvell, in his third year at Nevada during the 2019 season, led the team to a victory over Fresno State. "We had all those receivers on No Zone, and now they're doing the same, if not better, at the next level," noted Mike Ware, Horton’s 7-on-7 coach. Horton shared the field with future Division I stars, including Xavier Worthy, Jalen McMillan, Jeremiah Hunter, and Mac Dalena, on the No Zone team.

In the 2022 season, he recorded 71 receptions for 1,131 yards and eight touchdowns. He continued his upward trajectory into the 2023 season, amassing 96 receptions for 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns. This consistency has made him an invaluable asset to the Colorado State Rams.

A two-time All-Mountain West first-team selection, he demonstrated his prowess with a career-high of 16 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown in an overtime loss to Colorado.
