Dallas Cowboys Injury Update Ahead of Week 3 Clash with Ravens

The Dallas Cowboys began their preparations for Week 3 with a cautious approach, as numerous injuries have plagued the roster ahead of their crucial matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and cornerback Trevon Diggs were notably absent from practice due to ankle and foot injuries, respectively. Despite their absences, both players were seen moving around the locker room without noticeable discomfort, suggesting the possibility of a swift return to full participation.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy emphasized the importance of closely monitoring the injured players' progress, stating, "He's going to start off in the pre-practice and then we'll evaluate from there. Hopefully, he can get through the whole practice and see how it goes. This is the first time giving it a chance."

Assessing the Defense

Cornerback DaRon Bland was present at practice, albeit working off to the side with the team's director of rehab, Britt Brown. Bland, who missed Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints after undergoing a procedure for a stress fracture in his foot, is another key player under scrutiny.

The Cowboys' defense struggled significantly in Week 2, surrendering touchdowns on each of the Saints' first six drives. This lapse places even more importance on the health of their key defensive players, including Bland.

Tight End Troubles

On the offensive side, tight end Jake Ferguson was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Ferguson, who missed the previous game due to a bone bruise and MCL sprain sustained in Week 1 against the Browns, is working his way back to full fitness. Coach McCarthy remains hopeful about Ferguson's return, noting, "Jake's a big part of the heart and soul of that locker room. No question about it. I was told he had a good workout today. That's good news. But we'll see how he comes in tomorrow and so forth. I'm hopeful he can play."

In Ferguson's absence, the Cowboys relied on younger tight ends like Schoonmaker and undrafted rookie Brevyn Spann-Ford. Quarterback Dak Prescott praised their performance, saying, "Everywhere. I guess you can say that those young tight ends did a good job. Simply, they did a good job. As I've said throughout the week, Jake's more than just a tight end on Sunday. He's an aggressor. He brings a physical nature to this group. He's got a mentality that other guys feed off of, that's very contagious."

Injury Concerns Continue

Adding to the team's concerns, rookie defensive tackle Mazi Smith had to exit Wednesday's practice early due to a back injury. Smith’s status will be closely watched in the coming days as the Cowboys look to bolster their defense against a formidable Ravens offense.

Looking Ahead

As fans eagerly await further updates on the team's injury list, Thursday's padded practice will provide a clearer picture of who might be available for the critical Week 3 clash. The Cowboys' ability to manage these injuries and adapt will be essential in determining their success against Baltimore.

With Coach McCarthy, Dak Prescott, and the rest of the team maintaining a united front, the Cowboys hope to overcome their current challenges and regain their winning form. The outcome of these next few practices could very well shape the narrative of their season moving forward.
